Sensory Play Classes

January-February Class -
Cozy Critters

Cozy Critters is a sensory literacy experience that invites young children to slow down, snuggle into stories, and explore the world of winter animals through hands-on play, gentle movement, and creative making.

Rooted in the Play by the Book approach, Cozy Critters turns stories into invitations. Children experience books not just by listening, but by touching, exploring, and revisiting story ideas through materials and art. Through shared reading, sensory play, and open-ended process art, children build language, comprehension, and a joyful relationship with books in a calm, welcoming environment.

Featured stories explore animals who rest, burrow, nest, and find quiet places during winter. As children engage with cozy textures, natural materials, and playful provocations, they deepen vocabulary, strengthen listening and attention, and make meaning from stories in developmentally appropriate ways.

Cozy Critters is intentionally designed to:

  • support oral language and early literacy through play

  • encourage curiosity, imagination, and sustained engagement

  • offer multiple ways for children to respond to stories

  • feel inclusive, low-pressure, and accessible to diverse learners

Cozy Critters is offered in two formats:

  • Family Sensory Classes, where children and caregivers explore stories and play together

  • Child-Only Sensory Classes, facilitated experiences designed for groups and enrichment

Both formats share the same heart, materials, and learning goals. The difference is simply how families choose to participate.

Cozy Critters makes literacy something children can feel, explore, and love. πŸ»πŸ“šβœ¨
